Serves Tool

Serves To:USMetric
1 Pound(lb)  green beans, trimmed
1 Teaspoon(t)  asian sesame oil
1 Teaspoon(t)  vegetable oil
2 Clove(clv)  garlic, minced
1 Teaspoon(t)  fresh ginger, finely grated
1/16 Teaspoon(t)  red pepper flakes, crushed
5 1/2 Teaspoon(t)  soy sauce
2 Tablespoon(T)  water
1 Teaspoon(t)  sesame seeds, toasted, for garnish (optional)

Lightly steam the beans, then immerse in cold water to stop them from cooking further. You can do this up to a day ahead of time. Heat the oils in a saute pan over low heat. Saute the garlic and ginger in the oils until the garlic is golden and you can smell its sweetening aroma. Add the beans, pepper flakes, soy sauce and water. Stir to combine. Cook, covered, over high heat for a few minutes, until the water evaporates and the oil coats the beans and makes them shiny. Shake the pan and stir occasionally while the mixture is cooking. Garnish with sesame seeds, if desired.
