Auntie Chelle's Chicken And Broccoli Casserole

My Auntie Chelle has been making this for us for years. It was a great way she found to get us to eat broccoli.

1/2 Cup(c)  bread crumbs
1 Cup(c)  cheddar cheese, grated
1 Teaspoon(t)  lemon juice
1/2 Cup(c)  mayonnaise
3 Cup(c)  milk
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  pepper
2 Teaspoon(t)  salt
6 Tablespoon(T)  flour
8 Tablespoon(T)  butter or margarine
4 Cup(c)  cooked chicken, coarsely diced
1 1/4 Pound(lb)  fresh broccoli, chopped and cooked


Layer broccoli on bottom of greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Layer chicken over broccoli.

In a saucepan, melt 6 tbsp butter. Stir in flour, salt and pepper. Gradually stir in the milk and continue stirring until the white sauce is smooth and comes to a boil. Remove from heat.

Combine mayonnaise and lemon juice with white sauce and pour over chicken and broccoli. Sprinkle with cheese.

Melt 2 tbsp butter.

Stir in bread crumbs and sprinkle over casserole.

Bake at 350 degrees for 35-40 minutes.
