Baked Pasta With Spicy Meat Sauce

2 Tablespoon(T)  olive oil
1   onion, chopped finely
2 Clove(clv)  garlic, chopped finely
2 1/2 Cup(c)  lean ground lamb or beef
14 Ounce(oz)  tomatoes in juice, chopped
1 Pinch(pn)  sugar
2 Tablespoon(T)  fresh flat leaf parsley, chopped
1 Tablespoon(T)  fresh marjoram, chopped
1 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground
1 Teaspoon(t)  nutmeg, grated
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  cloves, ground
1 Pinch(pn)  salt, to taste
8 Ounce(oz)  long, hollow greek macaroni or other short pasta
2   eggs, beaten
1 1/4 Cup(c)  authentic greek yogurt
1/4 Cup(c)  authentic greek feta cheese, grated
1/4 Cup(c)  kefalotiri or pecorino cheese, grated
1 Pinch(pn)  pepper, to taste

Preparation

Heat the oil in a pan, add the onion and garlic, and fry for 5 minutes, until softened. Add the lamb or beef to the pan and fry for about 5 minutes, until browned all over, stirring frequently and breaking up the meat. Add the tomatoes, the sugar, parsley, marjoram, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, salt and pepper. Bring to a boil, then simmer, uncovered, for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, cook the macaroni in a large pan of boiling salted water for 10 to 12 minutes, or as directed on the package, until tender, then drain well. Beat together the eggs, yogurt and feta cheese. Season with salt and pepper. When the meat is cooked, transfer it to a large ovenproof dish. Add the macaroni in a layer to cover the meat then pour over the sauce. Sprinkle over the kefalotiri or pecorino cheese. Bake in a preheated 375°F oven for 30 to 45 minutes, until golden brown. Serve hot or warm, cut into portions.
