I'm a fan of lots of ethnic foods, but I'm kind of embarrassed to admit I don't really know what African cuisine consists of. I'm always interested in learning about new kinds of foods - anyone versed in the foods of Africa?

I just tried an African restaurant on a vacation to New England - it was delicious!

don't be embarrassed! Africa is a huge country, so it's impossible to point to one thing and say "this is African food".

From my understanding, African food is often based on starches (mostly rice) with a lot of fresh vegetables and meats. Yams, melons, fish, poultry, goat, plantains - these the kinds of ingredients you'll often find in African cuisine.

African food is usually pretty healthy!
