Apples and raisins are excellent additions to traditional stuffing mixes. They add a nice balance of festive flavor, and texture to holiday meals.

1 1/2 Cup(c)  medium stalks celery (with leaves), chopped
1/2 Cup(c)  medium onion, chopped
1 Cup(c)  margarine
8 Cup(c)  soft bread cubes (about 13 slices)
1/2 Cup(c)  raisins
1 1/2 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1 1/2 Teaspoon(t)  sage leaves, dried
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  pepper
3 Cup(c)  medium tart apples, chopped


Heat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease rectangular pan, 13 by 9 by 2 inches, or a 3 quart casserole. Cook celery and onion in margarine in 10 inch skillet, stirring frequently, until onion is tender. Stir in about one third of the bread cubes. Place in deep bowl. Add remaining bread cubes and ingredients. Toss. Place in pan. Cover and bake 15 minutes. Uncover and bake about 15 minutes longer, or until hot and slightly crisp.
