These are a popular treat that the kids absolutly go crazy over.

Ingredients

8   apples, cored and pared
3 Cup(c)  flour
1 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1 1/4 Cup(c)  shortening
1   egg, beaten
1/3 Cup(c)  cold water
1 Tablespoon(T)  vinegar
1/2 Cup(c)  margarine
1 Cup(c)  brown sugar
4 Tablespoon(T)  water

Preparation

Mix flour and salt. Cut in shortening.

Combine egg, 1/3 cup cold water, and vinegar and stir into the shortening mixture. Let stand a few minutes.

Roll out dough on a floured board and cut into squares, so that each is large enough to fit up around each apple. When an apple is completely wrapped in dough, place it in a greased 9"x13" baking pan.

Bring margarine, brown sugar,a nd 4 Tbsp. water to a boil. Pour over dumplings.

Bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or until dumplings are golden brown.
