Beer gives this bread a yeasty flavor and an unusual zing! It is an excellent companion to hearty soups.

1 Tablespoon(T)  additional caraway seeds
12 Ounce(oz)  beer
1 Teaspoon(t)  salt
2 Teaspoon(t)  caraway seeds
1 Tablespoon(T)  baking powder
1/4 Cup(c)  brown sugar, loosely packed
1 Cup(c)  whole wheat flour
2 Cup(c)  all purpose flour


In a large bowl, stir together all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, brown sugar, baking powder, caraway seeds and salt. Using a fork, stir in beer just until dry ingredients are moistened. Spoon into prepared pan and sprinkle with more seeds for garnish, if desired. Bake in preheated 350 degree F oven for 55 to 60 minutes, or until a tester inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool in pan on a wire rack before slicing.
