Preparation
Cream shortening and sugar together. Add eggs and beat until lemon-colored. Sift together dry ingredients. Add them alternately with the buttermilk to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition. Stir in the walnuts. Pour batter into greased 9 by 13 inch pan or two 9 inch round layer pans. Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 350 degrees F.
