Serves Tool

Serves To:USMetric
1 Cup(c)  brown sugar, packed
1   bottle chianti
2 Tablespoon(T)  mulling spices
1   medium orange, sliced
4   under ripe pears

Using a vegetable peeler, peel pears. Cut each pear in half and use a melon baller to remove core. Place in a 4 to 5 quart slow cooker. Add orange slices and mulling spices. In a large bowl, stir together Chianti and brown sugar. Pour over pears. If wine does not cover pears completely, add enough orange juice or water to cover. Cover slow cooker and cook on low heat setting for 6 to 8 hours or until pears can be easily pierced with a fork. Serve with blood orange slices, if desired.

Additional notes

These pears also are delicious sliced and served in a salad.
