Recipe Description
This easy soda bread has a little flair to it with the addition of cheddar cheese and green chilies. Serve it with your favorite soup or salad, or eat it alone for a tasty snack.

Ingredients

2 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
2 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
3/4 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1 Cup(c)  cheddar cheese, shredded
4 Ounce(oz)  green chiles, chopped
1 Cup(c)  buttermilk
1 Tablespoon(T)  vegetable oil
1   egg

Preparation

Heat oven to 350° F. Grease pie plate, 9 by 1 1/4 inches. Mix flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda in large bowl. Add cheese and chiles, then toss. Stir in remaining ingredients just until flour is moistened (batter will be lumpy). Pour into pie plate. Bake 40 to 45 minutes, or until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Remove from pie plate. Cool on wire rack.
