Recipe Description
The original Cobb Salad was made famous by Hollywood's Brown Derby Restaurant in the 1930s. If you like, you can substitute turkey, shrimp, or crabmeat for the chicken.

Ingredients

6 Tablespoon(T)  white wine vinegar
1/8 Teaspoon(t)  garlic powder
3 Tablespoon(T)  chives, snipped
1/2 Cup(c)  salad oil
1   large tomato, seeded and chopped
1 1/2 Cup(c)  cooked chicken, diced
1   large avocado, pitted, peeled, diced and tossed with 1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 Pound(lb)  bacon, crisply cooked, drained and crumbled
2   hard cooked eggs, chopped
3 Ounce(oz)  blue veined cheese, finely crumbled
4   watercress sprigs
1/8 Teaspoon(t)  pepper, freshly ground
1   medium head iceberg lettuce, shredded

Preparation

Spread lettuce in a large, wide salad bowl. In a small bowl, whisk together vinegar, garlic powder, pepper, chives and oil. Season to taste with salt. Pour dressing over lettuce and toss to mix, then spread out in an even layer in bowl. On top of lettuce, place tomato, chicken, avocado, bacon and eggs, arranging each ingredient in a separate wedge shaped section. Place cheese in center. Garnish with watercress sprigs, if desired. Toss salad at the table.
