Recipe Description
This cornbread is sweeter and lighter in texture than many other cornbread recipes. My kids prefer this version.

1 Cup(c)  milk
1 Cup(c)  butter
1   large egg
1 1/4 Cup(c)  yellow or white cornmeal
1 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
1/2 Cup(c)  sugar
1 Tablespoon(T)  baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  salt


Heat oven to 400° F. Grease bottom and side of round pan, 9 by 1 1/2 inches, or square pan, 8 by 8 by 2 inches, with shortening. Beat milk, margarine and egg in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients all at once just until flour is moistened (batter will be lumpy). Pour batter into pan. Bake 20 to 25 minutes, or until golden brown and toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
