Dutch Black Walnut Christmas Cake

A Pennsylvania Dutch cake recipe that is quick and easy to prepare. This cake works well at any time of year, not just Christmas.

Ingredients

2 Cup(c)  sugar
1 Cup(c)  butter
5   eggs
1 Pint(pt)  black walnut meats, chopped
1 Cup(c)  milk
3 1/3 Cup(c)  flour
4 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
1/3 Teaspoon(t)  salt

Preparation

Cream the butter, and then work in well beaten eggs and sugar. Sift the flour, baking powder and salt. Add the nuts and stir alternately into the first mixture with the milk. Oil a large cake pan. Add the mixture and bake for 50 minutes in moderate oven. Spread a nut icing over it.
