1/2 Cup(c)  margarine, at room temperature
1 Cup(c)  sugar, divided
3   egg whites, slightly beaten, divided
1 3/4 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
1 1/2 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
3 Teaspoon(t)  skim milk
1/2 Cup(c)  candied fruit, chopped
1/2 Cup(c)  raisins


In a large mixing bowl, beat the margarine, 3/4 cup sugar and 2 egg whites until smooth. In a medium bowl, combine the flour and baking powder. Add the milk and flour to the sugar mixture alternately, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the candied fruit and raisins. Mix well. Refrigerate for at least 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 400° F. Lightly spray a cookie sheet with vegetable spray. Place the remaining sugar in a shallow bowl. Roll the dough into walnut sized balls, dip the top of each ball into the remaining egg white, then into the sugar. Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool on wire racks.
