Ingredients

1 Pound(lb)  french bread loaf
1 Cup(c)  orange juice
1/2 Cup(c)  whipping cream
2   eggs
1 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground
1/4 Cup(c)  granulated sugar
3 Tablespoon(T)  butter
1 Dash(ds)  nutmeg, ground
4 Tablespoon(T)  powdered sugar
4 Tablespoon (Metric)(tbsp)  maple syrup

Preparation

Cut bread crosswise into 1/2 inch thick slices. Let stand, uncovered, for at least 4 hours or until next day. In a 9 by 13 inch pan, whisk together orange juice, cream, eggs, cinnamon, granulated sugar and nutmeg. Lay bread in pan. Let soak, turning several times, until all liquid has been absorbed, 3 to 5 minutes. Melt butter in a wide frying pan over medium heat. Add soaked bread, a few slices at a time. Do not crowd pan. Cook, turning as needed, until slices are richly browned on both sides. To serve, dust toast liberally with powdered sugar. Offer syrup to add to taste.
