2 Cup(c)  boiling water
1 Pound(lb)  raisins
1/2 Cup(c)  shortening
2 Cup(c)  sugar
1 Cup(c)  buttermilk
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  cloves
1 Tablespoon(T)  baking soda
4 Cup(c)  flour


Pour boiling water over raisins in sauce pan. Boil 15 minutes. Let cool. Cream shortening and sugar together. Add buttermilk. Combine all dry ingredients, then add to creamy mixture. When well blended, stir in raisins. Bake at 350 degrees F for 35 to 40 minutes in either 2 layer pans or a tube pan.
