Serves Tool

Serves To:USMetric
1 Pound(lb)  fresh asparagus
1   lemon
1 Pinch(pn)  salt, to taste

Wash the asparagus and snap off the ends.  (If you hold the stalk in your hand bend at the very end of the stalk with your other hand, the stalk will snap at the desired point.  This removes the tough or woody end.)  Cut half of the lemon into slices.  Set aside.  Place the asparagus in a shallow pan that can accommodate its length and add water to cover.  Cover the pan with a lid.  Bring to a boil and cook until barely approaching tender.  For stalks thinner than a pencil, this will take about 2 minutes after the water boils.  For thicker stalks, this will take up to 5 minutes after the water boils.  (The asparagus will continue to cook from the retained heat.)  Remove from the heat and drain.  Place on a serving dish.  Squeeze the uncut half of the lemon lightly over the asparagus, and sprinkle with a hint of salt.  Garnish with the lemon slices.  Serve hot.
