4 Ounce(oz)  plain chocolate
12 Ounce(oz)  plain flour
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
1/2 Cup(c)  butter, at room temperature
1 Cup(c)  caster sugar
1 Teaspoon(t)  vanilla essence
10   eggs, at room temperature
3 Tablespoon(T)  icing sugar, for dusting


Preheat a 350° F oven. Line a 10 by 4 inch ring mould with greaseproof paper and grease the paper. Dust with flour. Melt the chocolate in the top of a double boiler, or in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of hot water. Stir occasionally. Set aside. In a bowl, sift together the flour and baking powder. In another bowl, cream the butter, sugar and vanilla with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add the eggs, 2 at a time, then gradually incorporate the flour mixture on low speed. Spoon half of the mixture into the prepared tin. Stir the chocolate into the remaining mixture, then spoon into the tin. With a metal spatula, swirl the mixtures for a marbled effect. Bake until a skewer inserted in the center comes out clean, about 1 hour 45 minutes. Cover with foil halfway through baking. Let stand for 15 minutes, then unmould and transfer to a cooling rack. To serve, dust with icing sugar.
