These thin, crisp cookies can be frosted or iced with your favorite topping. Our family enjoys a simple light dusting of powdered sugar, applied while the cookies are still warm.

1/2 Teaspoon(t)  vanilla
2 Tablespoon(T)  half and half
1 Cup(c)  powdered sugar
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  cloves, ground
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  ginger, ground
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1 1/4 Cup(c)  all purpose
2 Tablespoon(T)  brown sugar, packed
1/4 Cup(c)  shortening
1/3 Cup(c)  molasses


Mix molasses, shortening and brown sugar in large bowl. Stir in remaining ingredients. Cover and refrigerate about 4 hours or until firm. Heat oven to 375°F. Roll half of dough at a time 1/8 inch thick, or paper thin on floured cloth covered surface. Cut into 3 inch rounds with floured cutter. Place about 1/2 inch apart on ungreased cookie sheet. Bake 1/8 inch thick cookies about 8 minutes, paper thin cookies about 5 minutes or until light brown. Immediately remove from cookie sheet. Cool completely. Frost as desired
