Overnight Spice Nut Coffee Cake

1 Cup(c)  butter
3/4 Cup(c)  granulated sugar
1 Cup(c)  brown sugar, packed and divided
2   large eggs
2 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking powder
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  salt
2 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground and divided
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  nutmeg, ground
1 Cup(c)  buttermilk
1 Cup(c)  walnuts, chopped


In a large bowl, using an electric mixer, beat butter, granulated sugar, 1/2 cup brown sugar and eggs. Add flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg and buttermilk and beat until blended. Stir in nuts. Pour into a lightly sprayed or oiled 9 by 13 inch baking dish. In a small bowl, mix remaining 1/2 cup brown sugar and remaining 1 teaspoon cinnamon and sprinkle on top. Cover and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Bring to room temperature before baking. Preheat oven to 350° F. Bake, uncovered, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean, 30 to 35 minutes.
