Recipe Description
This is one bread I remember well from my school days. My mother would have had the griddle on when we arrived home to cook slim bread, which we ate warm with lots of butter and homemade strawberry jam.

4 Cup(c)  plain white flour
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1/3 Cup(c)  supefine granulated sugar
4 Tablespoon(T)  butter
1   egg
1 Cup(c)  buttermilk


Sieve the flour, soda and salt into a bowl. Add the sugar. Rub in the butter and mix to a firm dough with the beaten egg and the buttermilk. Shape the mixture into two rounds and cut each one into four patties. Bake on a heated griddle for 6 to 10 minutes on each side, depending on the thickness. Eat hot or cold, split in half and spread with butter and homemade strawberry jam.
