Traditional Bread Dressing

Recipe Description
This recipe is an awesome way to use up leftover, or not so fresh bread you may have lingering around in the bread box. It is an all around great bread dressing recipe.

8 Slice(sli)  bread, cubed
6 Tablespoon(T)  non dairy butter, divided
1   large size onion, roughly chopped
3   stalks celery, roughly chopped
1 3/4 Cup(c)  vegetable broth


To make the bread cubes, cut the stale bread into small squares. No stale bread? It's okay. You can cut fresh bread, set it in a single layer on a baking sheet, and let it sit out, uncovered, overnight. No time to wait for stale bread overnight? Place it in the oven at 225° F, uncovered, for about 1 hour. Preheat the oven to 350° F. Have ready a 9 inch square glass baking dish.
Heat 2 tablespoons of the butter over medium heat and saute the onion and celery for 5 to 7 minutes, or until fragrant and translucent. Melt the remaining 4 tablespoons butter. Place the bread cubes, celery and onion mixture, melted butter and vegetable broth in a mixing bowl and toss together until well combined. If you are using this dressing to stuff something, stop here and proceed with the directions for that recipe. Transfer to the baking dish and bake, uncovered, for 40 to 45 minutes, or until the top begins to brown,
