Recipe Description
WE drink this Atole recipe every year. Our family ahs considered this drink a mainstay ever since I can rememebr and my kids have come to enjoy it espically come Chirstmas time.

Ingredients

2 Tablespoon(T)  masa harina
2 Tablespoon(T)  unsweetened cocoa powder
2 Tablespoon(T)  dark brown sugar
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground
1/4 Teaspoon(t)  anise seeds, crushed
1 Cup(c)  water
1 Cup(c)  skim milk

Preparation

In a medium saucepan, whisk together the masa harina, cocoa, brown sugar, cinnamon and anise seeds. Whisk in 1/2 cup of the water to make a thick paste. Whisk in the remaining 1/2 cup water and the milk. Set the saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil, whisking constantly. Reduce the heat to medium low and simmer, whisking occasionally, for 5 minutes, or until thick and richly flavored. Taste and add more brown sugar, if desired.
