Recipe Description
Many Americans have not heard of bread sauce, but it is a favorite in England.  Try it once, and you may never want to serve roasted chicken without it!

1 Tablespoon(T)  butter
2 Cup(c)  fresh white bread crumbs
2/3 Cup(c)  single (light) cream
1 1/4 Cup(c)  milk
1   bay leaf
6   cloves
1   onion


Stud the onion with the cloves. Put the onion, bay leaf and milk in a pan and bring slowly to a boil.  Remove from the heat and leave to stand for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavor of the onion to steep into the milk.  Pour the milk through a sieve into a large bowl and discard the clove studded onion and the bay leaf.  Transfer the milk into a clean pan, and add the single cream and bread crumbs.  Bring to a boil over a medium low heat, then reduce the heat and simmer gently for 5 minutes.  Stir in the butter just before serving.
