Recipe Description
This bread is sweet with a walnut flavor, but no walnut pieces, since you are using ground walnuts. If you would like walnut pieces as well, stir in 1/2 to 1 cup of chopped walnuts in addition to the ground ones

Ingredients

1 Cup(c)  water
1 Cup(c)  sugar
1/2 Cup(c)  butter
1 Cup(c)  dates, chopped
1 1/2 Cup(c)  walnuts, ground
1 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
1 Cup(c)  whole wheat flour
1 Tablespoon(T)  baking powder
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  salt
2   eggs, beaten
1 Teaspoon(t)  vanilla

Preparation

Preheat the oven to 350° F. Grease and flour a 9 by 5 by 3 inch loaf pan. In a small saucepan, stir together the water and sugar. Add the butter. Cook, stirring, until sugar dissolves and butter has melted. Stir in dates and let cool 20 minutes. In a large bowl, stir together the walnuts, both flours, the baking powder and salt. In a medium bowl, beat the eggs and vanilla. Stir the eggs into the cooled liquid ingredients, then add to dry ingredients until just combined. Pour into prepared pan. Bake 45 minutes, or until a wooden pick inserted in the center comes out clean.
