A simple but very tasty oatmeal cookie recipe.

1 Cup(c)  brown sugar
1/2 Cup(c)  sugar
3/4 Cup(c)  shortening
1   egg
1 Cup(c)  water
1 Teaspoon(t)  vanilla
1 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1/2 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1 1/2 Cup(c)  flour
3 Cup(c)  oats (old fashioned or quick cooking)


Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Cream sugars and shortening. Add egg, water and vanilla and beat until creamy. Sift together flour, soda, and salt and add to creamed mixture. Mix well. Stir in oats. Drop by heaping teaspoons onto greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees F for 10 to 15 minutes.

Additional notes

Variations: Chopped nuts, raisins, chocolate chips or coconut may also be used.
