Recipe Description
A bartender once told a veteran beer drinker that a person shouldn't drink on an empty stomach. The patron thought for a moment before declaring that he'd do both things at once, then. He'd have his egg and drink his beer at the same time, too. This recipe is how he did it.

Ingredients

2 Quart(q)  beer
1/2   lemon peel, cut in 4 or 5 pieces
3/4 Cup(c)  sugar
12   egg yolks
1 Quart(q)  milk

Preparation

Place beer, lemon peel and sugar in a large saucepan. Cook over medium high heat until almost boiling. Reduce heat to low. Place egg yolks in a medium bowl and beat until frothy. Slowly add milk to egg yolks, beating constantly until well blended. Add 1 cup beer mixture to blended eggs, then beat until combined. Carefully remove lemon peel. Pour egg mixture into beer. Continue beating beer mixture over very low heat until smooth and foamy. Do not let mixture get too hot, or egg yolk will curdle. Serve warm, in glasses or mugs.
