Recipe Description
When I first began working at a restaurant in Louisiana, some of the old guard waiters from the country would bring in treats from the bakeries in their towns to have as breakfast, or just snacks during the day. One of these treats was gingerbread planks. Their dark, smooth texture is unforgettable. We used to like to dip them in hot, sweet cafe au lait.

Ingredients

1/2 Cup(c)  butter
1 Tablespoon(T)  ginger, powdered
1 Cup(c)  molasses
1 Cup(c)  milk
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
3 Cup(c)  flour

Preparation

Cream the butter and blend in the ginger and the molasses. Blend in the milk. Dissolve the soda in water and stir it into the mixture. Work in the flour 1 cup at a time. When the dough is smooth, pour it onto greased baking sheets in 2 by 4 inch rectangles. Leave space between, as they will spread during baking. Bake in a preheated 400 degree F oven for 10 minutes, or until the gingerbread is cooked all the way through. Remove, cool and serve.
