Grandma's Apple Strudel

Recipe Description
I have been making my Grandma's easy strudel recipe for more than 10 years now.  My family loves it served warm, with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

1 1/2 Cup(c)  flour
1 Cup(c)  sugar, divided
1/8 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1/2 Cup(c)  butter
5 Cup(c)  apples, peeled and sliced
3 Tablespoon(T)  tapioca
2/3 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon


Cut flour, 1/2 cup sugar, salt and butter together with two knives or a pastry cutter.  Reserve 3/4 cup crumb mixture for topping.  Press remaining crumb mixture on bottom and sides of 8 or 9 inch square pan.  Mix apples, 1/2 cup sugar, tapioca and cinnamon, and spread over crust.  Bake at 425 degrees F for 20 minutes.  Sprinkle reserved crumbs on top and bake 20 minutes more.  Serve warm or cold, with whipped cream or ice cream.
