Recipe Description
Any recipe that makes a single 9 inch layer is ideal for making an ice cream cake. Among these are carrot cake, chocolate cake, yellow cake, nut cake, and orange cake.

6 Cup(c)  ice cream or sherbet, softened
1   recipe single layer cake
1   recipe icing of choice


Bake your cake of choice and let cool. Slice the cake in half horizontally. Place one half layer in a lightly greased 9 inch springform pan. Spread the softened ice cream on top of the cake. Place the remaining half layer on top of the ice cream. Place in the freezer for at least 3 or 4 hours, for the ice cream to firm. I prefer to chill this cake overnight. Transfer the cake from the spring form pan to a serving plate. Ice as you would a traditional cake. Return to the freezer until serving time. (If storing for more than several hours, wait for the icing to become very firm and then cover the cake with foil.)
