Ingredients

2 1/3 Cup(c)  all purpose flour
1/2 Cup(c)  shortening
1/3 Cup(c)  sugar
1 Cup(c)  molasses
3/4 Cup(c)  hot water
1 Teaspoon(t)  baking soda
1 Tablespoon(T)  ginger, ground
1 Teaspoon(t)  cinnamon, ground
3/4 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1   large egg

Preparation

Heat oven to 325 degrees F. Grease bottom and sides of square pan, 9 by 9 by 2 inches, with shortening and lightly flour. Beat all ingredients with electric mixer on low speed 30 seconds, scraping bowl constantly. Beat on medium speed 3 minutes, scraping bowl occasionally. Pour into pan. Bake 50 to 55 minutes, or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Serve warm.
