Recipe Description
The texture of this bread is similar to a fruitcake, but doesn't contain all the candied fruit. Simple, crunchy walnuts take center stage.

1 1/2 Cup(c)  walnuts, coarsely chopped
1 Teaspoon(t)  vanilla
1 1/2 Cup(c)  milk
1/4 Cup(c)  shortening, melted
1   egg, lightly beaten
4 Teaspoon(t)  salt
1 Cup(c)  sugar
3 Cup(c)  flour, sifted


Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Combine eggs, shortening, milk and vanilla and add dry mixture. Stir until all flour is mositened. Stir in walnuts. Turn into greased loaf pan, or divide between 2 greased 2 1/2 pound cans. Bake at 350 degrees F for 80 minutes for loaf pan, or 70 minutes for cans.
