Ingredients

Serves Tool

Serves To:USMetric
2 Teaspoon(t)  olive oil
1   red onion, coarsely chopped
2   medium carrots, peeled, halved lengthwise and sliced 1/2 inch thick
4 Ounce(oz)  sweet italian style sausage, casings removed and crumbled
12 Ounce(oz)  lean ground beef
28 Ounce(oz)  tomatoes in tomato puree, crushed
10 Ounce(oz)  spaghetti
1 Cup(c)  frozen italian green beans, thawed and drained

Preparation

Heat the oil in a large saucepan over moderately low heat for 1 minute.  Add the onion and carrots and saute, stirring frequently, for 5 minutes or until tender.  Push the vegetables to one side of the pan and add the sausage and beef.  Raise the heat to moderately high and saute, stirring constantly, until the beef is browned about 5 minutes.  Drain off excess fat.  Add the tomatoes and bring to a boil, then reduce the heat to low, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.  Meanwhile, cook the pasta according to package directions.  Add the beans to the sauce, cover, and cook over low heat until tender, about 5 to 7 minutes longer.  Drain the pasta, mound on a platter, and top with the sauce.
