Vegan Bolognese Sauce

Recipe Description
This sauce is great on pasta and in lasagna dishes.  The TVP gives it a great meaty texture, as well as a hefty punch of protein, that is incredibly realistic.  Although this recipe is not labeled gluten free, it can be if you purchase soy based, gluten free TVP.

Ingredients

1 1/4 Cup(c)  tvp granules
1 Cup(c)  white or yellow onion, finely diced
6 Clove(clv)  garlic, minced
2 Tablespoon(T)  extra virgin olive oil
1 Tablespoon(T)  molasses
1 Tablespoon(T)  granulated sugar
1 Tablespoon(T)  basil, dried
3/4 Cup(c)  tomato paste
1 Cup(c)  tomato sauce
2 Can(cn)  tomatoes with no salt added, with juice and diced

Preparation

Place the diced tomatoes with their juice, tomato sauce, tomato paste, basil, sugar and molasses in a large sized stockpot.  Bring to a simmer over medium low heat.  Meanwhile, in a skillet, heat the olive oil and saute the garlic and onion until the garlic is fragrant and the onions are translucent, about 10 minutes.  Add the garlic and onion to the pot.  Cover and continue to simmer for 20 more minutes.  Uncover and simmer for 10 more minutes.  Stir in the TVP, cover, and let sit for 10 minutes.
